  • After the excursion, the bus will not return to the hotel. Please bring all of your luggage with you when you board the bus.
  • Some excursions include workshops. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing as you may walk on earth.

  1. 1. Traditional Culture and Sustainable Regional Development in Noto’s Satoyama-Satoumi

    The traditional cultural elements of Satoyama-satoumi, such as agricultural practices and festivals, are vanishing in many regions as people’s lifestyle has changed. However, there are still some regions where people recognize the value of traditional culture and seek ways to preserve and hand it down to future generations. We will visit sites where Satoyama-Satoumi traditional culture has been preserved and is being used for regional development.

  2. 2. UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage "Aenokoto" and Human Resource Development Using the Nature in Noto

    You can witness “Aenokoto,” a traditional ritual performed in Noto, which was designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. In addition, We will focus on education initiatives that have been carried out at Noto Marine Center and Noto Satoyama Satoumi Meister Training Program. They will be presented as examples of human resource development using the nature in Noto.

    Traditional fishing in Noto does not decimate marine resources; its methods ensure sustainable supply for the future. With today’s emphasis on environmental preservation and natural resources, Noto-style sustainable fishing has been gaining attention. Unique regional activities that promote traditional fishing methods will be presented.

  4. 4. Sustainable Agriculture and Traditional Culture in Noto

    In Hakui city, natural farming fields are expanding, and the number of newcomers are increasing, despite the fact that this type of cultivation produces smaller yields than conventional agriculture. We will focus on activities for which community members and farmers work together as one. In addition, we will observe and experience two elements of traditional culture that have been handed down in Noto.

  5. 5. Mt. Hakusan Biosphere Reserve and Fermented Food Culture

    You will learn about works towards the preservation of biocultural diversity and for regional vitalization at the Mt. Hakusan Biosphere Reserve, while strolling around an area designated as important preservation district for group of traditional buildings by the Japanese Government in 2012. In addition, you will learn about traditional fermented food, in particular, the mysterious pickled pufferfish ovaries known as “miracle food”.

  6. 6. Protection of Japanese Crested Ibis and promotion of gibier at the foot of Mt.Hakusan

    Japanese Crested Ibis is the symbol of Satoyama. Introducing you to the works towards protecting the Ibis and observe the diverse breeding with the live video.
    In addition, today with the environment change in Satoyama, there has been increase in the wild life animal damage to the agriculture products and to the forest. You will look in to the effort of the gibier promotion for symbiosis between human and wild life animals.
